Boonoo Boonoo National Park

A short drive down the road from Bald Rock NP, and you reach Boonoo Boonoo.  The main feature of the park is a spectacular 210m waterfall that is sure to amaze.  This is one of those national parks, that after you park, you only need to walk a few hundred meters to see something awesome!  Perfect for the lazy weekender.  Don't worry though - the drive in is all on dirt (generally well maintained) - so the day won't be without some challenges!  Check the NSW parks site on the link below, for up to date road and park conditions prior to your visit.  Great place to stop for a picnic, then consider doing the round trip down to Tenterfield on the bitumen, and returning to Stanthorpe via Wallangarra and Ballandean!

  Unsealed Roads

The Mt Lindsay Hwy is unsealed for about 10km between Stanthorpe and Tenterfield.  The road is otherwise a pleasure, with little traffic.  The country side is truly Australian.  A wonderful drive in the afternoon.  By the time you reach the Boonoo Boonoo turnoff you're back on the bitumen, though after the turn its about another 9km on the dirt.  The roads are generally well maintained.

  Temperate Forest
The temperate forests are filled with a lush undergrowth of furns due to the moisture that runs off the granite.  The area has a real rainforest feel.  The waterfall track is only 300m from the carpark and picnic area, and sealed for the full distance to the lookout.

  Waterfalls

Enjoy wonderful views down the valley as above, or in the other direction to the waterfall running to its base.  For the more adventurous explorer, there are plenty of other walking opportunities in the park, as well as the chance to get wet!
